Our story
On February 1, 2003, we launched Hope Christian Center, a church sitting on the corner of New Lots and Pennsylvania Avenues in the East New York area of Brooklyn. What began as a small, passionate group of believers quickly became something greater than we ever imagined—a vibrant Christ-centered community committed to moving beyond the four walls of our church building, directly into the heart and homes of the people we serve.
Since that day, God has expanded our vision and multiplied our impact. We have led thousands into a growing relationship with Jesus; touched over 50,000 lives through our evangelism and street team efforts; supported global missions in Haiti, Ukraine, and Togo; played a vital role in developing affordable housing in East Brooklyn; launched our Hope Market initiative and Deacon Roy L. Coleman scholarship fund; changed our name to Hope City Church, launched a Baldwin campus, and established virtual members across the United States and the Caribbean.
And what have we learned over the last two decades?
That the faithfulness of God can’t be contained. It is expansive. It meets us where we are. It serves as a catalyst to grow deeper with God; to be a living representation of the Great Commission in and around cities.
What started on a single Brooklyn corner has become a city-wide and nationwide movement of hope — a deep commitment to the Gospel — and we’re just getting started.
Matthew 5:14: You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill can not be hidden.
